Rancho Bello

90 Points, Enobytes.com, November 15 2011 - 2007 Rancho Bello Vineyard Zinfandel

A well-made interesting Zinfandel that stayed true to the varietal with some expressions that are unique. Aromas that drip deep dark berryliciousness wrapped in a spicy blanket of freshly brewed espresso wafting from the creama as it drips into the cup. Intense like the aromas, the smoothness of this wine in the mouth was surprising. The flavors echo the aromas with a bit more intensity if that is even possible with dried cherry topping out the flavor profile...  read full review here

B+, WineAndGoodFood.com, October 31 2011 - 2007 Rancho Bello Vineyard Zinfandel

Ottimino 2007 Rancho Bello Vineyard Zinfandel pours a deep plum color in the glass. The nose is full of aromas of bright cherries, cinnamon, and oak. The palate is smooth with tastes of dark cherry, plum, and blackberry entangled in spices. This Zinfandel is nicely balanced and ends with a peppery finish. I am really impressed with the harmony of the flavors in this wine. A great start to my tastings! My Wine Rating- B+      Read the full article here

A wildly flavored, tannic and exuberant Zinfandel that showcases the variety's exotic personality. Dry and full-bodied, it has brambly flavors of blackberries, black currants, licorice, mocha and smoky cedar, liberally sprinkled with dusty Asian spices. Drink now - 2013 - SH $26  PDF

92 Points, Wine & Spirits, Febuary 2010 - 2006 Rancho Bello Vineyard Zinfandel

Rancho Bello is a dry-farmed vineyard on a ridge above Green Valley, a warm spot that matures zin into a juicy textural pleasure. This wine has the cool touch of satin and silk, a weave of pine, strawberry, sweet William and resinous herb. Tannins darken and firm it up, but the fruit keeps pouring out from behind them. Decant this to let the aromas build, then serve it with grilled rack of lamb. $26   PDF

Garnet hue. Menthol-collared bouquet with notes of charred oak, mint and evergreen. Lively cherry fruit laced with cedar and redwood. Spicy red fruit drives the close with youthful tannins. $26

One of the Year's Best Zinfandels, Wine & Spirits, February 2009 - 2005 Rancho Bello Vineyard Zinfandel

90 Points, Wine Enthusiast, July 2008 - 2004 Rancho Bello Vineyard Zinfandel

With this single-vineyard Zin, released alongside their Ottimino Vineyard bottling, the winery puts itself squarely on the Zinfandel map. This wine has the wild, briary exuberance you want in the variety, with deep, robust flavors of blackberries, plums, carob, Asian spices and balsam and a savory hint of raisins. It’s a big, powerful wine, best paired with grilled meats and hard cheeses. S.H.
