Ottimino Estate

92 Points, Wine Enthusiast, October 2011 - 2007 Ottimino Estate Vineyard Zinfandel

Classic Russian River Zinfandel. The vineyard is in the Green Valley, and the wine has the wonderful attributes of ripeness, dryness, and acidity, without high alcohol. It's enourmously flavorful delivering waves of blackberries, cherries, cola, red licorice, bacon, black pepper and sweet oak. A gorgeous Zin showing class and elegance. Surprisingly youthful (for a 5 year old Zin) dark ruby color. Deep nose of ripe blackberry, smoky peat, and baker's chocolate (the latter probably from new oak). In the mouth, an immediate rich presence of inky, chocolatey, plummy fruit coats the mouth, and there quite a bit of tannin too. A little hollowness in the mid-palate then leads to a dark, smoky, chocolatey finish where the tannin coating the sides of your mouth is the last thing to leave. Drink over the next 2 years. B+.

Ottimino Estate Zinfandel pours a deep burgundy in the glass. The intoxicating nose is filled with aromas of plum, vanilla, oak, and black pepper. The wine is perfectly balanced and tastes of ripe blackberries, dark cherries, licorice, and vanilla. A spicy, long finish is prolonged with lingering notes of vanilla. This is a beautiful Zinfandel. Forget one more glass, I want to have another bottle!

89 Points, Wine Enthusiast, February 2010 - 2006 Ottimino Estate Vineyard Zinfandel

This is a big, powerful Zinfandel. It's very strong in blackberry, blueberry, cocoa and peppery spice flavors, and also very tannic and dry. A dramatic wine, it will do well with barbecue and heavily spiced beef dishes. Sould develop bottle age through 2013 or so. SH $32   PDF

Deep garnet hue. Woodsy aromas emitting oak, cedar and clove. Soft milk chocolate and cranberry flavors. Spicy, well-oaked finish with hints of clove and white pepper. $32
