ottimino history

History

Ottimino was the eighth and smallest child of his family hence his name creatively constructed from Italian to mean "Little Eight."

In 1913 Ottimino left a war torn Italy against his father's wishes to start a new life as a farmer in America. This decision probably saved his life as he was to learn later that most boys of fighting age from his town had perished in the war.

After arriving at Ellis Island he began his journey west, ultimately acquiring a piece of property atop a ridge in Green Valley, Sonoma County California. It was here that he farmed his own land, nurturing the finest fruit throughout his lifetime.

We honor Ottimino's tradition. Working with his land and that of others like him, we transform superior grapes into an exceptional wine called Ottimino.
